About The Provider
As a father to twin boys, he treats his patients with the same care as he would his own family. At 12-years-old, a child in Dr. Halvorson’s family was diagnosed with a brain tumor and treated at Children’s Minnesota. The excellent as well as compassionate care she received throughout her illness has always served as Dr. Halvorson's role-model of what a doctor-patient relationship should entail. After sharing in this family experience, Dr. Halvorson understands the emotional, mental, and physical challenges a family goes through when caring for a very sick loved one. Dr. Halvorson considers Children’s Minnesota his second home and is deeply passionate about being a positive part of a child’s care through the worst times – and the best times.
Dr. Halvorson has trained with several of the leaders in pediatric neurosurgery as well as at exemplary neurosurgery programs in the county. He has advanced training in complex spine surgery, though maintains broad neurosurgical interests. Some of these include brain and spinal cord tumors; vascular malformations of the brain and spine; cerebral vascular surgery; minimally invasive spine and pediatric spine surgery with and without instrumentation; congenital anomalies of brain and spine; hydrocephalus, congenital and post hemorrhagic; endoscopic surgery; Chiari malformation; craniosynostosis; epilepsy surgery; stroke; perinatal consultation; traumatic brain and spine surgery; as well as spinal dysraphism.

We drove 9 hours round trip to see Dr. Kyle Halvorson, and after meeting him, we can confidently say it was absolutely worth every mile. He came highly recommended to us, and from the moment we met him, we understood exactly why. As parents navigating a very scary and emotional situation with our baby, having a provider like Dr. Halvorson made an immeasurable difference in our experience. It was immediately clear that he is exactly where he is meant to be. Dr. Halvorson truly has a calling for pediatric care, and his compassion for both his patients and their families shines through in every interaction. From the very beginning, he made us feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely cared for during an incredibly overwhelming time. One of the things that stood out most was the amount of time he spent with us. At no point did we feel rushed or like we were just another appointment on a busy schedule. He sat with us and thoroughly explained what was going on with our baby in a way that was both detailed and easy to understand. Hearing medical diagnoses and terminology as parents can be incredibly overwhelming, but Dr. Halvorson took the time to walk through everything step by step so that we truly understood what was happening. He went in depth when explaining the surgery he will perform to help our baby. Rather than just briefly discussing the procedure, he carefully walked us through what he will do during surgery, why it is necessary, and how it will help our child moving forward. He answered every question we had with patience and clarity. It was very evident that he is extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled in his field, but what made the biggest impact was the way he communicated that knowledge with empathy and reassurance. Throughout the entire appointment, Dr. Halvorson treated us as people and as parents, not just as another patient on a chart. He acknowledged the emotions that come with hearing news like this and approached the conversation with kindness, patience, and understanding. You could tell he genuinely cared about our baby and about us as a family. When you are trusting someone with your child-especially in a situation that involves surgery with a neurosurgeon-you hope for a provider who is both highly capable and deeply compassionate. Dr. Halvorson is exactly that. His expertise gave us confidence in the care our baby will receive, and his kindness gave us comfort during one of the most difficult moments we have faced as parents. We left our appointment feeling more informed, more supported, and more hopeful than when we arrived. That is entirely because of the time, attention, and care Dr. Halvorson gave our family. He made us feel heard, respected, and valued. We are incredibly grateful to have Dr. Halvorson as part of our baby's care team. It is clear that he was truly meant to be a pediatric provider. His knowledge, compassion, and dedication to both his patients and their families are exceptional. We could no [Truncated]
