Dr. VanHeest, Professor and Vice Chair of Education, University of Minnesota, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery. Her academic interests include neuromuscular disorders, storage disease disorders, congenital disorders of the pediatric hand and upper extremity. She is also affiliated with University of MN Masonic Children's Hospital, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, and Shriners Hospital for Children - Twin Cities. She also has a strong interest in orthopedic education and has served as Residency Program director at University of MN for 15 years. She presently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. She is the national recipient of the ACGME 2011 Parker Palmer "Courage to Teach Award" as well as the local recipient of the University of MN 2012 Outstanding Contribution to Post baccalaureate, Graduate, and Professional Education Teaching Award.
