Benjamin Joseph Best, MD

Dr. Benjamin Best is a fellowship trained pediatric neurosurgeon at Children’s Minnesota. Dr. Best graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Best completed his neurosurgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, during which he received multiple awards for leadership and clinical teaching. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Best has published many research articles and strongly values using evidence-based practices for his patients.

Dr. Best has broad interests including epilepsy surgery including DBS, RNS, and VNS; tumors of the brain and spinal cord; stereotactic and robot-assisted surgery; minimally invasive laser ablation surgery (LITT); cerebral vascular neurosurgery and vascular malformations of the brain and spine; minimally invasive spine and pediatric spine surgery with and without instrumentation; congenital anomalies of brain and spine; hydrocephalus; traumatic injuries of the brain and spine; endoscopic surgery; Chiari malformation; craniosynostosis; perinatal consultation; as well as spinal dysraphism.

Dr. Best is a native of the Midwest – he was born in St. Paul and grew up in Wisconsin. He has played hockey since his early childhood and prioritizes spending time with his wife and children when he’s not taking care of his patients. Dr. Best focuses on relating to his patients and their families and earning their trust through his compassion and expertise.
